Louane is a recent creation built on Lou, a pet form of Louise. Through Louise it goes back to the Germanic Hlodowig, "famous in battle", but it has no meaning of its own.

Origin

French. It is also spelled Louanne or Loane, and it recalls the French word louange, "praise".

History

Louane grew in the 2000s, then jumped after the success of the singer Louane in the film La Famille Bélier (2014). It belongs to the fashionable family of Lou names, with Lou, Louna and Louison.
